The monument was opened right before the day of Kharkiv city, which is celebrated on August, 23, and the 21th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence, which is celebrated on August, 24. It was designed by sculptors from Kharkiv Olexander Ridny and Anna Ivanova. The basis of the image of “Flying Ukraine” was taken from the history of ancient Greek goddess Nike – the goddess of victory.
Total height of the monument – 16.5 m. The monument is located on Constitution Square. There are two metro stations located under the monument – “Maidan Konstytutsii” (Constitution Square) and “Istorychnyi Myzei” (Historical Museum).
